Web3D Technologies
Introduction
Web3D is an introductory subject in computer graphics programming. It teaches the basics of how 3d graphics work as well as the minimum programming skills required to create basic 3d applications using html and javascript.
This year the course will involve two assignments each worth 33% and an exam worth 34%. No single component is a hurdle.
Intended Audience
Web3D is available to any first (and later) year student with no prior programming or 3D graphics experience. The intended audience is anyone looking for an introductory course that teaches the basics of 3D graphics programming.
Facilities and Equipment
The main equipment for the graphics subjects are the machines in the Sutherland lab (14.11.38), which have Intel i7 quad core CPUs and Geforce GTX 1060 graphics cards, running Linux (Fedora 24).
Many moons ago the Sutherland laboratory was populated with Silicon Graphics workstations. There are a couple of old SGI workstations sitting in the Sutherland Laboratory as museum pieces.

Lectures and Laboratories
The lectures are scheduled in room 12.13.2. Tutorials(/laboratories) are in the Sutherland lab (room 14.11.38). Please use the Student Timtabling System to sign up for a time. Note that there is limited ability to swap groups.
Exam
The exam will be held at the end of semester, it counts 34% towards your final grade. No books, notes or calculators are permitted.
Sample Exam. No solutions will be provided.
Schedule
The course was updated substantially in 2013 to use three.js and X3DOM, both of which are still undergoing rapid development. The lecture notes and laboratories may be progressively changed through the semester, mostly in relatively minor ways, but means you should check back for updates.
